Flying Whale

Medium: Oil

Who says whales can't fly? In this piece, I used a palette knife for the textured paint on the whale, and I used my fingers to dab on some pink and blue clouds in the background.

Pug

Medium: Watercolor

Pugs aren't this colorful, are they? Well, this piece proves otherwise.

Beach Day

Medium: Watercolor

It's interesting how the absence of something can be just as, if not more, powerful than the presence of it. By leaving out white spaces on the person's face and hair in this painting, I formed a concept of bright, beachy sunlight.

Galloping

Medium: Watercolor

I had lots of fun with this piece! I loved experimenting with splattering paint at the end to create more movement.

Flowers

Medium: Chinese ink

I painted these two pieces (Flowers and Bamboo) with my grandma. We were sitting at her kitchen table, listening to the sound of the fountain in her backyard.

She taught me about putting varying degrees of pressure on the brush to create varied line thickness. I love how art can bring people together--even people from two completely different generations.

Bamboo

Medium: Chinese ink

The Crying Empress

Medium: Watercolor

I wonder--what does a rich and powerful empress like her have to cry about?
